You really might not know how many people are battling the
kind of pain you are experiencing now, the pain of rejection, being cheated
upon, betrayed, or backstabbed, until you finish reading this piece. Emotional
pains can really be debilitating, maybe because they are inflicted by people we least expect could hurt us.
We have waited in
vain most times, waiting for consolation to come from the so-called offenders,
but they usually end up being unrepentant and insensitive. These persons are
usually people we share bonds with; it may be a spouse, parent, child, neighbor,
relative, or colleague. It really can be frustrating and disappointing.
Now introspect and ask yourself if there is anyone you may
be hurting by lack of empathy, disappointments, insensitivity, ungratefulness,
neglect, or oversight. Reach out to
restore your relationship with significant others, rather than wait for them to
come to you. It brings about emotional relief that would give you peace of
mind, joy, and esteem.
These are fifteen (15) ways to restore your relationship;
the last is my specialty:
1. Stay present and listen; it enables us to observe
nonverbal clues that would inform us about the needs of others, which ordinarily
they may not be able to relate to you about what they may be passing through.
2. Compliment others and accept compliments assertively; it
gives a sense of belonging and acceptance.
3. Learn how to be empathetic by trying to understand others' feelings and reactions genuinely.
4. Learn to give gifts; it is an easy way to reconcile with
others. No one is too rich to receive or too poor to give.
5. Deliberately make time to go out and have fun with
your loved ones from your tight schedule. Life is too short to be too busy.
6. Always be the first to apologize in every quarrel or
dispute; it will certainly gain you respect you might fear would be
humiliating.
7. Your act of kindness should go beyond the contingency that
other people would question your generosity.
8. Learn to forgive before someone asks for your forgiveness.
9. Realize that there are no perfect human beings, and learn
to accommodate the flaws of others.
10. Try to be mindful not to mind-read others when having phone
conversations with them. It is not always what your mind is telling you.
11. Meditate, pray, and expect to experience peace of mind
trusting others.
12. Try to dwell on remembering the nice times in the past
you spent with others rather than dwelling on the negative triggers of your
conflicts.
13. Think before you speak; do not be myopic about issues. Try
to look at situations with a ‘second’ eye. Do not be too fast to conclude on
frustrating situations.
14. Avoid mind games and give your loved ones space to have
quiet time alone. You would let a bird in your hand fly away if you loved it.
Relative freedom is an act of love.
15. Learn to take snap photographs with significant others
and find time to watch old pictures together.
Now it is your turn to add to the list above using our comment
