THE MAN IN A YELLOW SHIRT

A man in a Yellow Shirt

I am very happy I have bounced back haven been away for a while. Aside news updates, it is also important we share our stories with you. We tell our story today surrounding “The Man in a Yellow Shirt”.

What on earth would ever prompt any one to appear in a yellow shirt on a job interview? This was the case of the man behind the silhouettes – Mr. Ken!!!

Have you read the book ‘Odd Man Out’ by Dr. Eustance Chesser? This is not the case of the ‘She-Men’ or the ‘He-Women’ but of the ‘Alfa-Male’. Yes, it is never a coincidence that every one of us is born of a woman ‘being’. There is this speculation that a man is either a believer of the ‘Green bottle’ or lover of mammon, otherwise he is a Casanova. By default if I don’t drink or kill for money, I think I love the female folks – Don’t get it twisted.

If you know me quite well you would tell my favorite color; yellow is never my color, but I think it has something to do with the ice-berg.
Coincidentally, on 22nd of April 2013 I showed up in a yellow shirt for a job interview, and that single act gave me a place throughout my stay in the company.

I used to work in a book store owned by a woman before my 22nd April’s face to face interview with a huge man on a clean-fronted dandy shirt; I was told later he is the MD of the company.

I was already at my duty post that morning at the book store when an unknown number called my phone to confirm I am Kenneth Obasi. The voice at the other end of the telephone conversation sounded very urgently, prompting me to leave whatever I was doing to attend an impromptu interview. Because I needed a better job, I accepted to attend the interview even though I was not dressed in an official dress code as explained my interviewer.

I later discovered why the interview was impromptu. I was told that the MD was expected to meet up with his flight scheduled that same day back to the head office in Lagos. Missing the interview would mean that I had to travel to Lagos to attend the interview.

At the interview venue, I arrived in time as instructed. Frankly speaking, the MD was so repelled at my appearance when I was called upon, that he had to send me out of his presence to wait for him at the reception, because I showed up in a yellow shirt. My former boss (the MD) is a man I respect very much that he acts according to his looks. He has a good sense of style and fashion so that he was too quick to notice the colour of the shirt I was putting on. He later met me at the reception and questioned why I had to show up in a yellow shirt for an interview. I simply told him I was at work when I was called to attend the interview and considering the urgency I could not go back home to change my shirt. He inquired if that was a dress code. I told him I worked for a woman. He did not ask further question on my dress code as my answer would imply that I dressed to impress my boss (that is, the woman I worked for). I got the job at the end of the interview, but my boss never stopped calling me ‘the man in a yellow shirt’ even when I put on an immaculate white, and I was able to create a positive effect from that.

The yellow shirt effect; sometimes, you just have to break out from the norm to get a job done – that was exactly what happened to me showing up in a yellow shirt. I rather faced rejection than missed the job interview. We have shied away from facing our fears and overcoming our challenges so many times, because we dreaded rejection and shame. I rather tell myself ‘I can do it’ then face criticism for not performing well and gain the confidence for haven tried.

The man behind the Silhouettes

The tip of the ice-berg behind my concept of the ‘Yellow-Shirt Effect’ explained. The whole concept of the “Yellow shirt effect” has been inspired by the power possess by the ‘women’ folks. Yellow for me is a pr-figuration of a woman. There is a saying that ‘Behind every successful man there is a woman’. Notice the yellow back ground on the picture above. I respect the women folks and each time I had to listen to their so many words coated in mysteries, I try not to throw their thoughts behind my logical mind. They understand what it means to be the ‘Odd Man Out’ in the face of controversy in other to save a soul. I will advise you better start taking your woman seriously mostly in this month of February.
