POETIC HUMOR: IN HONOR OF PROF IMO BEN UBOKUDOM ESHIET ON HIS BIRTHDAY

I still have a few hours until midnight so I'll share this story. Once upon a time, I was a freshman in a university about 10yrs ago. I took a course entitled Introduction to poetry and I scored a well-fed A grade. But I was young, star-eyed, simple-hearted, I knew nothing about grudge, hatred and inherited enemies.

I was a teenage girl, so simple but strong. Then, the haters took my exam answer booklet, the haters sent it to the "oga at the top", the haters claimed I didn't deserve an A.

You see I was the only A. Many things happened and other things followed. Board meetings were held to discuss Kenechukwu Onwudinjo. I was young. Again and again I asked tearfully "who have I offended, why, why me?" but then I did not understand that hatred is not about what one does or does not do. I began to see the world around me and the way it works.

Well then, it happened that the course in question had been co-taught by two lecturers, one of whom was Prof Imo Ben Ubokudom Eshiet . I wasn't there but I was told that in my defence he had said that even in his part of the course assessment I had scored the highest(which was true). The case died a natural death.

Today I teach poetry to nearly a thousand undergraduate students each year, today I have published my own Anthology of poemswww.childofmymother.com and I have learnt that when people push you one step backwards, you double up and leap ten steps forward, far out of their reach.

To all my course mates of undergrad, if you ever thought I was too serious, yes its true. I was in hot water and so I was always wide awake that is how I didn't get cooked.

Happy birthday Prof. Many thanks for your honesty. Many many thanks. There are things I will never forget and this is one of them. I still have my test script from the first poetry test you gave on Mammiwata poems by Oonokome Okome. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIR.
