Gigi Hadid can
now add "designer" to her growing list of professional gigs. Tommyfinger announced
Hadid as its global brand ambassador — a role that calls upon the
model-of-the-moment to help design a full collection, in addition to starring
in ad campaigns. Comprised of sportswear, footwear, accessories and a new
fragrance — it's a strategic move by the American brand to expand its women's
market globally. The collection will hit stores next fall.
"I've
known Gigi and her family for years, and it has been amazing to watch her grow
into one of the world's top models and most-followed fashion influencers,"
said the designer in a statement. Consider Hadid today's version of a Tommy
Girl.
"I never
thought I would be asked to design a capsule collection, so it still feels like
a dream that Tommy approached me to collaborate," added Hadid. Expect the
collab's aesthetic to reflect the model's personal style with a mix of sporty
streetwear, tomboy-but-girly pieces and hippie-chic items.
This news
comes at the end of a whirlwind year for Hadid. At the start of 2015, she
claimed the title " Model of the Year" by the Daily
Front Row. She also snagged her dream job of walking the Victoria's Secret runway show, took down her body-shamer's via
social media and tricked everyone into thinking she got a breakup bob at
the AMAs. Not only was she named the face of Maybelline, but she fronted campaigns forH&M x Balmain, Versace, Topshop and Guess as well.
There was the slew magazine covers, too, including Teem Vogue (twice). Vogue UK, Vogue Italia, Vogue Netherlands, V with her
sister Bella and even an issue of Adweek, which was
appropriately titled "Social Supermodels." With a
major designer collaboration already in the works for 2016, Hadid's star is
only getting brighter.
