AKAOLU.COM: Simple Steps On How to Install Your Washing Machine by Yourself

Things You Need:
Most washing machines come with all the screws and pipes needed to connect the machine to a water source. In case you do not have a water source close to where you want to install your washing machine you may need to connect one. The same is applicable to electric power source. You are advised to carefully read the installation manual.

Step 1:
Unpack. Get rid of all the packaging and brackets which the machine came in. Ensure you don’t misplace the items.

Step 2:
Read the Instructions. Carefully read the manufacturer’s installation instructions and recommendations. Keep this booklet handy during installation. You may also need to keep it safe even after your job, for reference purposes.

Step 3:
Connect the Water Supply. Washing machines come with PVC hoses to link the water inlet at the back of the appliance to special miniature valves connected to the household plumbing. The hoses are colour coded - red for hot, or blue for cold. Note, however, that some new washing machines only need a cold inlet. Connect these hoses according. You will need to run Teflon/thread tapes on the screw pipes to avoid minor water leakages. Ensure you turn off the tap/valve of the water supply before connecting to avoid water spillage.

Step 4:
Connect Hose to Pipe. After connecting the hoses to the washing machine, it is now time to connect the hoses to the water inlet or tap. Make sure everything is nice and tight before you turn on the tap.

Step 5
Connect the Waste System or Outlet. The outlet from the washing machine must be connected to a waste system that will get rid of the dirty water. The standpipe and trap is the standard method. The machine hose fits loosely into the pipe, so that dirty water won't be siphoned back into the machine.

Now your washing machine is set for use. Simple!

Important Notes:
• Don't plug it in until you've checked the main control button is turned to off. Miss this one and you spend an hour working out how to release the door!
• Turn the taps/faucets on before using so that water flows through to the machine.
• Always read the instructions thoroughly before use; some washing machines have very sensitive electronics in them and it pays to know this before trying to do anything with all the button features.
• Teflon tape is very helpful in fixing small leaks on piping with threads.
• If your machine has both hot and cold water inlets but you only have a cold water supply, ensure you install a blanking cap on the hot water inlet otherwise water may leak out of it.
