The Senate was yesterday charged as
the majority senators voted against the immediate implementation of the
N5, 000 campaign promise by the All Progressive Party (APC) during during the
last presidential election.
Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda (PDP, FCT) moved an additional prayer when a motion tagged, “Urgent need to curb the soaring rate of unemployment in Nigeria” sponsored by Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (Akwa Ibom, North-East).
Aduda urged the Senate to ask the federal government to commence the payment of N5, 000 in line with the campaign promise of the APC.
The prayer created uproar on the floor as the majority senators unanimously opposed it.
When the Senate President, Bukola Saraki put a voice vote on Aduda’s prayer, the majority Senators voted against it.
Also, Senator Babajide Omoworare(APC, Osun East) raised an additional prayer, urging the Federal government that the immediate government be made to account for all the monies spent on SURE-P and other poverty alleviation programmes.
